Still Have Questions?
How long does a DOT physical exam take?

This depends on your overall health.  The more health issues you have, the longer it takes to review them.  If you are healthy and not taking prescription medications, your appointment should be less than 30 minutes!

How much does a DOT physical exam cost?

$85.  Our goal is to get you in and out as quickly as possible, and help you save money as well!

Will my insurance cover the cost of my DOT physical examination?

In most cases, no.  The DOT physical exam is to determine “fitness for duty”, and is not a normal physical examination to evaluate overall health.  Most health insurance companies won’t cover this expense.  We can provide you with a receipt if you want to file with your insurance and try to get reimbursed.

What do I need to bring for a DOT physical?

1. Your valid, state-issued driver’s license.
2. Not something you bring, but be sure to have your paperwork filled out before you arrive.
3. If you wear glasses, please have them with you.
4. If you’re on any medications, bring a list of all your medications.
5. If you use a CPAP, please bring in a report showing the most recent 30 days of use.
6. A mostly full bladder; for your urine sample. 🙂

Why do I have to provide a urine sample for a DOT physical exam?

The urine sample is used to evaluate certain health conditions, specifically, we’re checking the following things:

– Protein – indicator of kidney health
– Glucose – indicator or possible diabetes
– Specific Gravity – indicator of hydration levels
– Blood – indicator of kidney health

We aren’t looking for drugs or alcohol, that is done via a drug screening, which is a separate procedure.

Do I need an appointment for a DOT physical?

You sure don’t.  We happily accept walk-ins.  However, our appointments always take top priority, so if you arrive when we have a lot of apointments on the schedule, you may have to wait.  Appointments always guarantee a fast visit!

What happens if I fail my DOT physical examination?

It depends on the reason why you failed.  If you have a permanently disqualifying condition or a temporary issue.  If you have a temporary issue like you need to get new glasses, then you will have to get them and re-take the eye exam.  The doctor will let you know what issues need to be addressed and may be able to grant a short-term certificate in some cases.

How long before I get my DOT Medical Card?

If you pass the DOT physical examination, we will print a copy of the Medical Card and your “Long Form” paperwork before you leave the clinic.

Is a DOT physical exam what I need for my CDL?

Yes, in order to operate a CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) and have a CDL (Commercial Drivers License), you need to have a Medical Certificate, which is what you’ll receive after passing your DOT physical examination.

Is a DOT physical exam the same as a Drug Screening?

No, these are different procedures; looking for different things.

The DOT physical is an evaluation to determine if a driver is capable of safely performing the duties associated with driving.  A drug screen is checking for use of prohibited substances.

Can I fill out my DOT physical exam paperwork before my appointment?

Yes.  After your appointment is set, you will receive a confirmation email that has a link to print your paperwork, which you will need to fill out before your appointment time.

Are CMV drivers required to be CPR certified?
